Residents at Meridian Healthcare’s Augustus Court got out their best hats and enjoyed the excitement of the races at a fun-filled Grand National themed afternoon.
The care centre in Garfoth opened its doors to family, friends and members of the community (15 guests) and hosted an elegant afternoon tea, alongside sweepstakes for the Grand National’s supporting races with prizes including Prosecco and chocolates.
Councillor Stuart McKenna, one of the guests at the event, joined residents for the afternoon. “I was able to join in with the sweepstake, but as usual backed a donkey!”
Augustus Court has hosted a range of inclusive events and activities for residents over the past year including reminiscence activities, harvest festivals and a visit from internationally renowned Yorkshire artist Ashley Jackson.
The home also has close links with Strawberry Fields Primary School who regularly visit to read with and sing to residents, as well as St Benedicts Church who host regular services at Augustus Court.
Staff and residents are already looking forward to Easter with preparations for a mad hatters tea party in full swing.
